Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Aromas of caramel, butterscotch and toasted coconut. Flavors of toasted hazelnut, creme brulee, and vanilla.
Vineyard Notes
The Norton for this wine comes from our Glenway vineyard. The site lies at 800' elevation. Soils consists of green stone, clay and shale.
Production Notes
Norton grapes are picked quite ripe, destemmed and fermented in tank. Once the fermentation reaches the desired residual sugar level the wine is fortified with 190 proof brandy to preserve the sweetness and take the alcohol to 18%. The wine is aged for 2 years in new whisky barrels, 2 years in neutral whisky barrels then finished for a year in neutral wine barrels.
Winemaker Notes
2012 was an respectable growing season. Spring was quite wet but we had a hot July and August which ripened everything nicely. Grapes were picked a bit later than in previous vintages. Cab Franc and Chardonnay stood out.
