The Muscarelle Museum TO HOST DERBY DAY ”Wine & Run for the Roses Wine Auction”

DERBY ATTIRE, SOUTHERN CUISINE, AND ARRAY OF COLLECTIBLE WINES FOR

AUCTION HIGHLIGHT THIS ANNUAL BENEFIT FOR THE MUSEUM

Williamsburg, Va. (March 12, 2012) – The Muscarelle Museum of Art is pleased to announce its second annual Wine & Run for the Roses Wine Auction, which will take place on the grounds of the museum in historic Williamsburg, Va. on May 5, 2012. The museum is especially pleased that the presenting sponsor for this year’s event is Riverside Health System.

The second annual benefit event will begin with a silent auction and reception showcasing the finest Virginia wines from across the Commonwealth.  The reception will be immediately followed by a live auction which will feature unique wines and exclusive lots only available through the Museum.  The reception will also offer an array of Virginia cheeses, including hard-to-find selections, further enhancing the Virginia wine experience at the event. The live auction will conclude with the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, complete with a Derby hat contest.

Live auction lots include: an African safari, a scotch tasting/wine dinner for six at a Williamsburg B&B, 1975 Chateau Petrus, 2006 Chateau Ausone, 2002 Vosne Romanee 1er Cru, 2003 La Tache, 1976 Romanee St., bottles of 2000 Chateau Leoville Las Cases, a magnum of 2008 Bond Estates Quella, a signed double magnum of 2007 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve in a wooden case, two magnums of 2006 Tua Rita Redigaffi, 3L of 1992 Dolce California Table Wine, two bottles of 2006 Tau Rita Redigaffi, three bottles of 100 pt California wine, a catered four-course/four-wine dinner in your home for twelve, a getaway to Calluna Vineyards (Ca.), along with many more unique and collectible items.

As many as 500 attendees are expected to take part in this exciting event. All proceeds will directly benefit the Museum, thus continuing to ensure the availability of world-class museum programs for the William & Mary and Hampton Roads communities.

The Muscarelle Museum of Art Board of Directors is organizing Wine & Run for the Roses with the guidance and assistance of Wine Committee Chair Patrick Duffeler II. The event exemplifies the evolving role of the Museum in the greater Williamsburg area in which the Museum has become both a cultural and a community institution.

Aaron De Groft, director of the Muscarelle Museum of Art, commented on the event by stating that “Wine & Run for the Roses provides a creative and engaging presentation of what has always been the ultimate goal of the Museum: to share its many resources— from the Commonwealth and beyond— with our own local community.”

This year’s event is expected to be a sell-out, so early ticket purchase is advised. Tickets for Wine & Run for the Roses are $75.00 per person.  To purchase tickets please contact Bronwen Watts at 757.221.2709 or bmwatt@wm.edu. Wine Club Only Wine and Cheese Event

Wine & Cheese Pairing: – Saturday, April 28th, 11:30 a.m.

GET TICKETS

Join us for an all new event! As usual, we’re keeping things intimate – so seating is limited. This event is structured, and begins promptly at 11:30am. We expect the event to last between 1-2 hours, but that depends on how things go! Reservations/Tickets are required, so get ‘em HERE.Cowgirl Creamery

So what’s the deal? Well, you know the wine you like to drink (Rappahannock of course!) – but which cheeses go with? You could google it, sure – or maybe get one of those wine wheels (kind of cool, don’t get me wrong)…but even then, you’d just be getting ideas for tired pairings. How about some education? Conversation? Sipping satiation? How about some wine and cheese pairings that suprise and delight? Don’t know about you – but when someone says “Wine and Cheese?” – I say “Yes Please!” (okay, I know, I’ve exhausted the proverbial cheese)…

…Expect 4 incredible cheeses, and 8 incredible wines. We’ll provide a small sample of each cheese, then chat and educate as we go through pairing those cheeses with both traditional – and not so traditional – wine pairings. Take a look at the lineup and grab your tickets here! (please note that the new club room will be closed until 2pm for this event, and the winery will close promptly at 6:00 to prepare for the SlowFoodVastWine.org event)

Start: April 28, 2012 11:30 am
End: April 28, 2012 2:00 pm
