We will be closed Easter Sunday – one of the 4 days in the year that we close: New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.

Rappahannock Cellars will close as usual at 6pm on Saturday, April 7th, will remain closed Easter Sunday, and will reopen again as usual on Monday, April 9th, 11:30am.

Columbus Day Weekend

Not Columbus Day Weekend: DAR Day Weekend!

October 9th, 10th, 11th, under Events

Okay, well, it really is Columbus Day Weekend – but did you know it’s also the anniversary of the founding of the DAR in 1890 (Daughters of the American Revolution?) Yup. A bunch of other stuff, too (scope it out here: wiki) Actually, it’s kind of confusing. Columbus day is October 12th, but we celebrate it on the second monday of October. So, October 11th it is. Columbus came and found this place, but it’s the Daughters of the American Revolution that can prove “lineal bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving United States independence.”

Neat-o, eh? So lets toast to that!

To celebrate this weekend: Join us for the release of our 2008 Meritage, Live Tunes, and BBQ by Setter Mountain.

HUNTLY, VA, March 02, 2010 – Rappahannock Cellars 2007 Cabernet Franc was awarded a Gold Medal at the 2010 Grand Harvest Awards. This is an international competition hosted every year by the Vineyard and Winery Management Magazine. Only seven gold medals were given to Virginia Wines at this competition, and ours is the only Virginia appellation Cabernet Franc to win a gold medal.

“It is always a great honor for our wines to be recognized in such a significant way, especially to earn such respected awards for one of our staple wines.” remarked Rappahannock’s proprietor John Delmare. “All these awards continue to be a great compliment to our winemaking team, consisting of winemaker Jason Burrus and vineyard manager Tom Kelly”

“The 20th annual Grand Harvest Awards was held February 24-25, 2010 at Sonoma Mountain Village, Rohnert Park, California. Twenty-three judges evaluated over 1,500 entries and awarded a total of 141 gold, 426 silver and 457 bronze medals. Garnering medals at the Grand Harvest Awards has been tough to achieve historically because of its high standards of excellence.” – Vineyard & Winery Management Magazine

Rappahannock Cellars Wins Gold and Silver medals at the AWC Vienna International Wine Competition

HUNTLY, VA, February 18, 2010 – Rappahannock Cellars 2006 “R” Red Wine was awarded a Gold Medal at one of the largest and most prestigious wine competitions in the world, the AWC Vienna (Austria) International Wine Competition. In addition silver medals were awarded for their 2006 Meritage, 2007 Cabernet Franc, and 2008 Viognier.

Rappahannock Cellars excelled in this competition proving its ability to produce wines capable of standing up against wines from around the world, and garnered the highest awards awarded to any east coast wineries.

“It is always a great honor for our wines to be recognized in such a significant way, especially to earn such respected awards at this incredible competition; the most respected in the world.” remarked Rappahannock’s proprietor John Delmare. “It is “very” significant for us to have our wines highlighted on the European and International stage; and to shine as the top participant from the Eastern United States. HUNTLY, VA, May 13th, 2009 – Rappahannock Cellars 2006 Meritage earns a coveted silver medal, the highest award given to any winery outside the sates of CA/OR/WA in 2009, at the largest and most prestigious wine competition in the world, the Decanter World Wine Awards.

Rappahannock Cellars excelled in the competition, by also earning a bronze medal for it’s 2006 Cabernet Franc. These awards come on the heels of a stellar showing at the Virginia Governor’s Cup Competition where they were awarded the “Best White Wine” award for the 2007 Chardonnay; the Tasters Guild International with a gold medal for their Noblesse Viognier (along with 5 other medals including silvers for the ’07 Cabernet Franc, ’07 Claret, and the ’06 Norton dessert wine); and at San Francisco Chronicle International Wine Competition, earning a silver medal for its 2008 Seyval Blanc at this prestigious competition. “It is always a great honor for our wines to be recognized in such a significant way, especially to earn such respected awards at this incredible competition; the most respected in the world!” remarked Rappahannock’s proprietor John Delmare. “It is very significant for us to have our award winning wines highlighted by Decanter at the London International Wine Fair while we are attending for the first time; and to shine as the top participant from the Eastern United States. The 2009 Decanter World Wine Awards attracted more entries this year than any other wine competition in the world, cementing its position as the world’s biggest wine competition. In total 10,285 wines were entered, more than double the amount when the competition launched six years ago. The number of companies submitting wines increased by 23% to 2,240. The Decanter World Wine Awards is the largest and most influential wine competition in the world. The competition is among the most rigorous in the world as evidenced by only three gold medals being awarded to any winery in the United States.

HUNTLY, VA, March 25th 2009 – Rappahannock Cellars 2007 Chardonnay was awarded a “GOLD” medal and named “Best White Wine” in Virginia at the 2009 Virginia Governors Cup Wine Competition.

Rappahannock Cellars excelled in the competition while also earning a silver medal and two bronze medals for it’s Cabernet Franc and two Meritage Red Wines. These awards come on the heels of a strong showing at the San Francisco Chronicle International Wine Competition, earning a coveted silver medal for it’s 2008 Seyval Blanc at this prestigious competition.
